How to unlock the encyclopedia in Animal Crossing New Horizons
The encyclopedia is important because it allows you to catalog all the species you find, from insects of all kinds to fish. To obtain it proceed as follows:
- Earn 5000 miles and pay off the debt with Tom nook, talking to him at the Service Center
- Purchase or manufacture (if you have materials and designs) the net and fishing rod
- Use the tools mentioned to catch various types of insects and fish
- Go to the Service center and talk to Tom nook, after which mention the local fauna
- Give the first bugs and fish to Tom to get various rewards including the encyclopedia

After a certain number of animals delivered you will unlock Blathers, the insect and fish expert who will move to your island. After that Tom nook will receive his call, Tom will give you the tent of Blathers that you will have to place where you want.
The next day you will find Blathers waiting for you, ready to reward you for the insects and fish you deliver to him.
