The Institute of Psychology of Barcelona warns that the abuse of computer games can lead to social segregation, demolition of school performance and loss of the sense of time.

This dependence on computer games is more dangerous because of its relation to gambling and because it influences basically youngsters.

The master of compulsion and person of the Institute of Psychology of Barcelona, Rafael Sanchez Barrero, assures that the dependence on computer games is extremely "comparative" to the consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs. "In young people it causes school decline and increases social reclusion," is how Sanchez sums up what he considers a habit when it has unfortunate results. Some of the side effects that this compulsion to computer games can cause are: fixation, resilience, loss of control, withdrawal disorder, forgetfulness of unfortunate outcomes or rejection of the real world.
