However, the only way to get the best result is to experiment with various different solutions, also based on your style of play and the players available. For this reason, below you will find an overview of the defensive and offensive tactics of FIFA 22.
Defensive tactics
Defensive tactics, of course, refer to your team's attitude when the opponent has possession of the ball and determine how your players will try to avoid conceding a goal.
Defense style
- Balanced: your team will assume a balanced defensive style, without putting too much pressure on the opponents.
- Pressing on the first check: The team will try to predict when their opponents will make a mistake and will try to use it to their advantage to gain possession of the ball.
- Pressing once the ball is lost: For seven seconds after losing possession of the ball, your team will press their opponents intensely. Effective, but in the long run it consumes the energy of your team.
- Constant pressing: as before, but in this case the pressing will continue until you regain possession of the ball. Burn the stamina in no time, to use only if you are in trouble.
- Fold back: the team will retreat en bloc, giving meters of field to the opponents but making the defensive line more compact.
Amplitude determines how compact or spread your formation on the field will stay. Better not to deviate too much from the default value, given how important crosses are in FIFA 22. The Depth instead determines the position of the players on the field when you are not in control of the ball. Also in this case it is better not to deviate too much from the base value.
Offensive tactics
Offensive tactics determine the attitude of the team when you are in possession of the ball.
Construction of the maneuver
- Balanced / fast / slow: determines the team's approach during offensive maneuvers. At a high pace, the team will rapidly advance into the opposing half of the pitch as soon as you take control of the ball. On the contrary, with a slow pace the team will remain more compact allowing better control of possession of the ball.
- Long Ball: useful if you have a point able to take advantage of long balls.
Creating opportunities
- Balanced: Players maintain their positions while in the opponent's trocar, making entries when to press L1 / LR or when they see fit.
- Ball possession: Your teammates will offer more support to the player in possession of the ball rather than making insertions. This tactic favors short rallies, waiting for the right moment to strike.
- Offensive insertions: when you have control of the ball, your teammates will try to penetrate the opposing defense with insertions, increasing the chances of going to the net but also those of suffering a counterattack.
- Direct passages: when the team attacks, the players will try to make themselves dangerous by entering behind the defense to receive the ball in the spaces.
The Width value affects how much the team will expand or compact when you are in control of the ball. Those relating to Corners and Penalties instead determine how many players will enter the area during corner kicks and free kicks. A high number increases the chances of going to the net, but also of suffering a ferocious counterattack.
