Walrein is good and how to best use it in Pokémon Go

Walrein wasn't the best Pokémon to use in Pokémon Go. There were plenty of other options to choose from when it came to a Water and Ice-type Pokémon, and it all boiled down to the Pokémon's move set. That is, until Community Day in January 2022. After that, things changed significantly for Walrein and they have a lot of comments to make about it. In this guide we will cover whether Walrein is good and how to best use him in Pokémon Go.

Walrein is a Ice and Water type Pokémon. It will be weak against Electric, Fighting, Grass, and Rock-type moves, but is resistant to Ice and Water-type attacks. When it comes to PvP, he has a max CP of 2.726, an attack of 155, a defense of 150, and a stamina of 203. If you were to push him even further with XL candies, he would have a max CP of 3.081, an attack of 165, a defense of 160 and a resistance of 215.

While Pokémon stats are fairly balanced for the Grand and Ultra Leagues, it would never have been a huge choice in the Master League. However, what changed that was Community Day in January 2022. During the event, Walrein added fast-moving powder snow and a loaded move icicle spear to his move set. It was the first Pokémon to have access to the Popsicle Lance, which essentially boils down to being similar to the weather ball before the charged move nerf. It has a power of 60 and only requires 35 of energy to use.

The fact that the Icicle Lance only requires 35 energy, plus Walrein received powdery snow, makes it a powerhouse of an Ice-type Pokémon. While he doesn't have the most bulk on the Pokémon Go roster, the best moveset for Walrein gives him a lot more depth than he previously did. You want to make sure you're using a Walrein with fast moving powder snow and icicle launcher and earthquake charged moves. These bindings are key to ensuring Walrein is a suitable choice on the Great, Ultra or Master rosters.

Walrein may have been noticeably overlooked ahead of January 2022 Community Day, but now we can't recommend it enough. We can't wait to see how this Pokémon will disrupt the Pokémon Go PvP circuit in the future.
