How to find Gyarados and get all 4 stars in New Pokemon Snap

Gyarados may not be a legendary Pokemon, but with its menacing appearance it remains a memorable and desirable pocket monster to have. New Pokemon Snap's first major update includes Gyarados as a new Pokemon to photograph, but this one will have some prerequisites before you can see it, not to mention taking a four-star photo. You'll find Gyarados in the Mightywide River in Belusylva.

How to find Gyarados

Gyarados appears in level 2 of the river (day), which means that you will have to play level 1 a couple of times to increase your research level. Playing through the first level will help you get a good lay of the land and you'll need to be quick to shoot some Illumina Orbs across multiple Crystablooms.

As you cruise across the river, you will eventually descend a waterfall into some rapids; once you're settled in, notice a sleeping Arbok on a log to the right. After Arbok is a waterfall: scan with the X button and notice that there is a Crystabloom behind the waterfall. He quickly shoots the orbs of Illumina and hit the Crystabloom - the flower will glow yellow and illuminate the waterfall, and the Gyarados will appear briefly before diving.

How to get a 4 star Gyarados photo

It will take some time to get that coveted four-star photo - after the second waterfall, look to your right for another Crystabloom. It should be easy to hit from this angle, and once hit, a glowing Toucannon will land next to it. You'll want to turn directly behind you where you came from. As you continue to descend the rapids, Gyarados will take a leap and swim out of the river and towards you. Snap a photo quickly and this action shot will be the perfect four-star photo for your collection.
