For what Pokemon Sword and Shield learned from the Let's Go game is that being able to move Pokemon at any time, between your party and the boxes, is a great idea. In Sword and Shield, this is done via PC Box Link.
How to use the PC Box link in Pokemon Sword and Shield
You first get the PC Box Link when you arrive in the Wild Area. Play the story until you get the item. When you have it, you will be able to move Pokemon between your group and boxes. To do this, follow these steps:
- Press X to open the main menu
- Select the Pokemon option to bring up your party
- Press the R Button to open your box, allowing you to change your party
And this is all. It's a simple system, but it's also incredibly useful if you need to change your party members quickly. It is also useful because there is no longer a way to disable EXP sharing in the game. If you want to focus on just one Pokemon in your party, you will need to move the others to a Box to do so. Thankfully the PC Box Link makes it easy to do.
An important note is that it is not possible to use PC Box Link all the time. For example, you won't be able to use it during Gym Challenges. It's a big time saver, as you don't have to go to a Pokemon center to get Pokemon from a box.
