All return challenges in Pokémon Go

For May, Pokémon Go players will take a step back in time to control the four different regions of the Pokémon games. The first is Kanto, followed by Johto, Hoenn and then Sinnoh. If trainers complete all three tasks for each challenge, they gain access to the Shooting Challenge Champion Research Project.



Each of the Pokémon Go throwback challenges will happen for a limited time during specific periods during April-May. These are the times for all challenges occurring in your respective time zone:

Kanto Throwback Challenge: May 1st at 13pm to May 00th at 8pm

  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region, such as Venonat and Chansey, will appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region will also be available to fight in raids.
  • The following Pokémon will hatch from 7km of eggs: Venonat, Machop, Onix, Lickitung, Tangela, Scyther, Pinsir, Lapras, and Eevee.
  • In honor of Charizard chosen in the Pokémon Year vote as the number one Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region, Pikachu with Charizard hats will appear in the wild!
  • If you're lucky, you might find a shiny Venonat!
  • Event-exclusive field research activities will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region.
  • The 2 × Catch XP, 2 × Raid XP and 2 × Hatch XP bonuses will be active.

Johto Throwback Challenge: May 8 at 13pm to May 00 at 15pm

  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, such as Dunsparce and Skarmory, will appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region will also be available to fight in raids.
  • The following Pokémon will hatch from 7km of eggs: Chinchou, Yanma, Girafarig, Pineco, Dunsparce, Gligar, Shuckle, Skarmory, and Phanpy.
  • In honor of Umbreon who was chosen in the Pokémon of the Year vote as the number one Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region, Pikachu with Umbreon hats will appear in the wild!
  • If you're lucky, you might find a shiny Dunsparce!
  • Event-exclusive field research activities will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region.
  • The 2 × Catch Stardust and 2 × Raid Stardust bonuses will be active.

Hoenn Throwback Challenge: May 15th at 13pm to 00pm to 22pm

  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, such as Skitty, Zangoose, and Seviper, will appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region will also be available to fight in raids.
  • The following Pokémon will hatch from 7km of eggs: Lotad, Slakoth, Nincada, Skitty, Sableye, Mawile, Trapinch, Feebas, and Clamperl.
  • In honor of Rayquaza being chosen in the Pokémon of the Year vote as the number one Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, Pikachu with Rayquaza's hats will appear in the wild!
  • If you're lucky, you might find a Shiny Skitty!
  • Event-exclusive field research activities will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region.
  • The distance required to hatch an egg once it has been placed in an incubator and the distance required to earn Buddy Candy will be halved.

Sinnoh Throwback Challenge: May 22 at 13pm to May 00 at 29pm

  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region, such as Cherubi and Glameow, will appear more frequently in the wild.
  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region will also be available to fight in raids.
  • The following Pokémon will hatch from 7 km of eggs: Cranidos, Shieldon, Glameow, Chingling, Bonsly, Happiny, Gible, Munchlax, Riolu and Mantyke.
  • In honor of Lucario chosen in the Pokémon Year vote as the number one Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region, Pikachu with Lucario's hats will appear in the wild!
  • If you're lucky, you might find a Shame Glameow!
  • Event-exclusive field research activities will reward encounters with Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region.
  • The one hour Star Piece duration bonuses, one hour incense duration and one hour Lucky Egg hour long bonuses will be active.

Throwback Challenge for Champions: June 3rd at 13pm to June 00th at 8pm

  • Galarian Stunfisk will make its debut in Pokémon GO! Find it in the wild, in raids, and as a reward match for the 2020 Special Shooting Challenge Champion.
  • The following Pokémon will also make their Pokémon GO debut and hatch from 7km of eggs along with their usual forms: Galarian Meowth, Galarian Zigzagoon, Galarian Darumaka, and Galarian Stunfisk. You will also be able to evolve Galarian Meowth, Galarian Zigzagoon, and Galarian Darumaka into their Galarian evolved forms!
  • Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region will appear more frequently in the wild.

Everyone will have access to these challenges, with the exception of the Champions League Return Challenge, which only unlocks for those who complete each of the Regional Challenges. It all starts on May 1st, so be sure to be on the lookout for the release of new Pokémon Go Challenges.
