To trade, you'll need to visit a Poké Center anywhere in the game. Go down the escalators and talk to the NPCs at the counter. They will ask you if you want to enter the Global Room. Select the option "Yes, with a linking code". You will then be prompted to set up a linking code. When you do, you give the linking code to the person or persons you wish to trade with.
You can have more than one person in a Global Room with you, so don't be afraid to set up a small trading group there if you wish. Trading can be incredibly useful when it comes to getting Shiny Pokémon. Remember, if you can get a Pokemon from a player in another country, you can use it to breed with your country's Pokemon, greatly increasing the chances of getting a Shiny.
