How to get the most out of the Octopath Traveler demo

The JRPG of Square Enix, Octopath Traveler, will arrive exclusively on Nintendo Switch, next July 13th. Thanks to the demo published on eShop, we were able to get our hands on a title that has all the cards on the table to be a small pearl.

From what we know, the overall length of the main story of Octopath Traveler is around fifty hours, which will double if all secondary missions and other explorable areas are added. These are many hours of play that cannot be reduced to the three hours that the demo, albeit with a considerable degree of freedom, allows you to play.

Three hours on a single save file

The first thing you need to know is that the three hour time limit is exclusive to the single save file. At the moment, the demo only allows you to have one save slot, but if you start a new game and overwrite the save on the previously created file, you can play again for up to three hours.

Essentially, this means that the demo can be played over and over, as long as you overwrite the old save file. It is important to keep in mind that the demo data will be carried over to the full game upon official launch, so make sure you finish the prologue with the desired result.

    Eight characters all to play

There are eight different playable characters in Octopath Traveler which can be selected from the game menu. Each of the characters has certain characteristics, a unique story, an adventure to complete and a boss to defeat. Our tip is to try out each character in order to find the one that best suits your play style. Each prologue for the different characters takes about forty-five to sixty minutes, so if you do it eight times, you've already played five hours longer than the three-hour limit!

The other reason why we recommend that you play every hero is that it allows you to learn every feature of the game better and allows you to play the demo faster.

Once you have learned the game mechanics, you can go around and recruit the other seven characters. This certainly takes time, and doing it fast will be a real challenge, but if you skip all the cutscenes and dialogues and kill the enemies you encounter as quickly as possible, you'll get the job done in about two hours.

This allows you to explore the game world and available areas even more within the three hour limit. Obviously, as this is a demo you will not be able to see everything as some areas of the game are completely blocked and therefore inaccessible.
