How to tame a cat in Minecraft

To tame a cat in Minecraft, you will need raw cod or raw salmon. With fish in hand, nearby stray cats will slowly approach your character. Once the cat has gotten close enough, you can feed him the fish to tame him.

While it may seem simple, the process can be somewhat difficult. First, you will need to catch a cod or salmon using a fishing rod. Don't cook it - you'll need the fish raw to attract a cat to you.

After that, you need to find a stray cat. However, be careful not to approach too fast. They are shadowy creatures. A stray cat will run away from your character if you get within seven blocks of it.

To lure him close, hold the fish in your hand, then slowly move within ten blocks of the stray. Once at the right distance, hold the raw fish in your hand, then remain perfectly still. Sudden movements could scare him and this includes moving his head to look around.

When done right, the cat will slowly approach your character. Once he is close enough, press the Use button to feed him. After that, the stray cat will become a domesticated cat. He will follow you, move around your house and even rest on your furniture.

Giving the cat a cod or raw salmon again will cause it to enter Love Mode. Putting two felines in Love mode will allow them to reproduce, generating a kitten with the coloring of one of its parents. Feeding the catfish will also restore two hearts to health.
